Cuddle bots meet doomsday anxiety: How AI giants use PR cute-washing to mask real security risks and dodge accountability.

The current debate about artificial intelligence resembles a grotesque spectacle. While tech companies offer us cute AI assistants with colorful animal avatars as harmless everyday helpers (Meta Muse and Open AI Dots), the same creators warn that their own creations have the potential to wipe out humanity. The AI industry is deep in a schizophrenia-like identity crisis and conceals it with cheap PR and harmless cuteness.

On the one hand, there are stylish presentations: AI agents in bunny look chatting friendly, booking plane tickets and tidying up the diary.

On the other hand, industry insiders and AI apocalypticists are incessantly drumming up warnings of uncontrollable superintelligences, security disasters and out-of-control systems.

The message given to the public is completely misleading:
Please entrust our products with your most intimate data; even if we don't know ourselves whether they will destroy us tomorrow.
The executives of the large AI forges are countering the dwindling trust of the population with a mixture of excuses and PR maneuvers:
It finally becomes absurd on the political stage: The highly acclaimed agreement of the tech giants in the White House (SRF News article: AI - Tech companies sign AI safety rules) turned out to be a mere declaration of intent: "morally binding", i.e. legally completely worthless.
Crowned by cosmetic debates and political neologisms, such as the attempt to unceremoniously rename AI SI (Super Intelligence), one thing becomes clear: While cybersecurity dangers, data protection violations and autonomous risks are increasing rapidly, politicians and corporations are taking refuge in ineffective symbolism and photo ops.
The AI industry demands blind trust while fueling panic about its own creations and evading binding regulation. Between cute PR façade and dystopian warnings, it is no longer just about progress, but about a dangerous evasion of real responsibility.
